Position: Middle/High Assistant Principal

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • School Culture & Student Support
    • Behavior Management:
      Oversee student discipline, attendance, and behavior systems for grades 6–12. Implement restorative justice practices and proactive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS).
    • Student Well‑being:
      Partner with guidance counselors, social workers, and teachers to support students' social‑emotional learning (SEL) and mental health needs.
    • Extracurriculars:
      Supervise and coordinate middle and high school student activities, clubs, athletics, and special events (e.g., orientation, graduation).
  • Instructional Leadership & Staff Evaluation
    • Teacher Supervision:
      Observe, evaluate, and mentor instructional staff using state‑approved evaluation frameworks to improve classroom instruction.
    • Professional Development:
      Collaborate with the leadership team to design and facilitate meaningful professional development aligned with school goals.
    • Curriculum Alignment:
      Ensure smooth vertical alignment of the curriculum, particularly focusing on the crucial transition from 8th to 9th grade.
  • Operations, Safety & Administration
    • School Safety:
      Serve as a key member of the school safety committee, coordinating emergency drills, managing crisis response protocols, and ensuring a secure campus environment.
    • Master Scheduling:
      Assist in the development and management of the master schedule, student course registration, and room assignments.
    • Data‑Driven Decision Making:
      Analyze student data (standardized testing, attendance, disciplinary actions) to identify trends and implement continuous improvement plans.
  • Community & Parent Engagement
    • Communication:
      Serve as a primary point of contact for parents and guardians regarding academic, behavioral, or attendance concerns.
    • Partnerships:
      Foster strong, collaborative relationships with community organizations, higher education institutions, and local businesses to enhance student opportunities.
Qualifications & Requirements Required Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Valid State Administrative License (e.g., Principal or School Administrator K‑12 / 6‑12).
  • Clear criminal background check and child abuse clearances (as required by state law).
Essential Skills & Competencies
  • Deep knowledge of both middle school developmental milestones and high school graduation/college readiness requirements.
  • Conflict Resolution:
    Proven ability to defuse tense situations and mediate conflicts among students, staff, and parents with empathy and fairness.
  • Communication:
    Exceptional verbal, written, and active listening skills.
  • Equity Mindset:
    Commitment to fostering an equitable educational environment that serves a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience utilizing school management software (e.g., Progress book, Public School Works) and data visualization tools.
