Job Description – Substitute Teacher 1 (260004MD)
Position SummaryThis full‑time Substitute Teacher position is located at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility, 4321 Green Road, Highland Hills, OH 44128‑4898. The role involves teaching small classes (6‑8 students) of youth aged 16‑18, developing and implementing lesson plans, providing individualized instruction, counseling students, and occasionally supervising extracurricular activities. The position is Union‑represented by OEA/Scope.
Responsibilities- Assess educational needs of youth and develop lesson plans that meet those needs, including individualized assignments and training.
- Provide instruction and individualized assistance to students.
- Provide counseling on students’ performance, behavior, and personal problems.
- Organize and/or monitor extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Adhere to all DYS policies, safety procedures, and curriculum guidelines.
- Valid teaching certificate or license appropriate for the grade level and area of specialization assigned.
- Baccalaureate degree or less, in accordance with OEA agreement.
- Successful completion of the State of Ohio Teacher certification prior to employment.
- Strong communication, analytical, and motivational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional setting and with youth who have behavioral challenges.
- Salary range: $66,726 – $113,401 (includes a 20% supplement).
- Full‑time schedule: 40 hours per week.
- 40 days of leave per year (plus additional personal and sick leave).
