Job Summary

The Intervention Specialist provides specially designed instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position requires flexibility, as the specific duties and responsibilities will be determined by the needs of the students, ranging from mild to moderate to moderate to intensive disabilities. The Intervention Specialist collaborates with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to create an inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instruction & Student Support:
    • Develop and implement individualized, data-driven instructional plans based on each student’s IEP.
    • Provide direct instruction and intervention in academic, social-emotional, functional, and life skills areas as required by student needs.
    • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to support students in accessing the general education curriculum.
    • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies, accommodations, and modifications to meet the diverse needs of students.
    • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as necessary.
  • IEP Development & Compliance:
    • Develop, implement, and review IEPs in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
    • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers to create meaningful IEP goals and objectives.
    • Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress reports, data collection, and compliance documentation.
    • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and student support team meetings.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with general education teachers to provide co‑teaching, consultation, and support to ensure inclusive practices.
    • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, challenges, and strategies for success.
    • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists), and other specialists to support student learning.
    • Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities, promoting their success in the least restrictive environment.
  • Behavior & Social‑Emotional Support:
    • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support students in developing positive behavior and coping strategies.
    • Foster a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports social‑emotional growth.
    • Use de‑escalation strategies and interventions to promote positive student behavior.
  • Professional Development & Growth:
    • Stay current on best practices in special education through ongoing professional learning.
    • Participate in school and district professional development, team meetings, and special education training sessions.
    • Implement new instructional strategies and interventions based on current research and student needs.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed based on student needs and district requirements.

Physical Requirements
  • Standard classroom and school environment with exposure to diverse student needs.
  • May require lifting, assisting students with mobility needs, or managing challenging behaviors.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of adaptive equipment or technology.
Job Requirements
  • Valid Ohio teaching license as an Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Ohio’s Learning Standards, IEP development, and special education laws and regulations.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction, co‑teaching, behavior management, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use assistive technology and adaptive instructional strategies.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
