Position Title: Educational Aide
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Student Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Contract: 187 Days
Position Summary: The Educational Aide plays a vital role in supporting the educational, behavioral, and functional needs of students with disabilities in inclusive and specialized settings. Under the supervision of licensed special education staff, the aide provides direct and indirect support that promotes student access to the general education curriculum, independence, and social-emotional growth. This position requires compassion, flexibility, professionalism, and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Instructional Support
- Assist students in accessing instruction by reinforcing academic content and adapting activities under teacher direction.
- Support implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology use.
- Supervise small groups or individual students to provide reteaching, guided practice, or supplemental instruction.
- Implement behavior support plans and positive behavior strategies as directed by special education staff.
- Support students in developing self-regulation, social interaction, and executive functioning skills.
- Monitor student behavior and report observations to teachers and related service providers.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, mobility, and medical needs (with proper training and per district guidelines).
- Accompany students throughout the school day including transitions between classes, lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal.
- Promote student independence and dignity while maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support student goals and program implementation.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and IDEA regulations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as required by the district or position.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit with ESEA qualification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
- Ability to follow directions, remain patient, and respond to challenging situations calmly and respectfully.
- Physical ability to support student needs, including lifting and mobility assistance if necessary.
- Commitment to inclusive education and helping all students succeed.
- Reliable, dependable, and professional in demeanor and communication.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to various student needs and learning environments.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
