Prison Education Specialist – Southern Ohio Correctional (Part-Time)
Position Summary:
The Prison Education Specialist at Southern Ohio Correctional in Lucasville, Ohio will serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administration at the respective facilities. She/he will engage with the needs and missions of the program, develop and implement certificate programs, and orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in a correctional setting with diverse incarcerated adult learners.
The hourly pay rate is $30.51 with a maximum of 28 hours per week.

- Serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the Southern Ohio Correctional Institution.
- Assess instructional needs and opportunities within and specific to Southern Ohio Correctional Institution.
- Collaborate to develop and implement certificate programs with SCC department chairpersons and deans.
- Orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in a correctional setting and working with diverse incarcerated adult learners and correctional staff.
- Oversee security clearance process and assist in resolving instructor needs.
- Supervise the assistant coordinator in handling day‑to‑day operational activities.
- Oversee support services for incarcerated adult learners (placement testing, academic advising, registration, textbooks, tutoring, and attendance).
- Ensure all policies and regulations of SOCI, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), and SCC are followed and enforced.
- Maintain records that conform to DRC and SCC.
- Provide accurate and on‑time reports to SOCI, SCC, and DRC.
- Oversee facilities and equipment related to SCC program delivery at SOCI.
- Maintain continual contact with the Director of Advanced Job Training.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional work experience in a correctional, law enforcement, or higher education setting; supervisory or educational experience preferred.
- Leadership experience for education program development in a correctional environment.
- Working knowledge and professional experience within the criminal justice system.
- Professional communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to work with diverse constituents, including faculty, administrators, inmates, and staff.
- Supervision and resource management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn college databases.
- Must pass a DRC background check.
