Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of the School of General Studies, Arts & Sciences, the Director of the A&P/ Nursing Center for Excellence will supervise the Anatomy & Physiology/Nursing Center for Excellence; coordinate anatomy & physiology courses and other biological science courses; develop and deliver a TEAS preparation program; serve as an academic advisor; and teach biological science courses as assigned.

Program‑Specific

Academic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise Anatomy and Physiology program and the Center for Excellence
    • Manage the A&P/Nursing Center for Excellence located in the Academic Success Center.
    • Serve as a tutor to students enrolled in biological science classes.
    • Work with Academic Success Center leadership to coordinate peer tutors to work in the Center for Excellence, as needed.
    • Design and maintain resources and supplemental education programming to aid students enrolled in biological science courses.
  • Coordinate Anatomy & Physiology courses
    • Lead curriculum development and course improvement.
    • Maintain equipment in the A&P/microbiology laboratory and coordinate with the school’s Office Manager to order supplies for the laboratory and courses.
    • Serve as a College Credit Plus Faculty Liaison for assigned dual enrollment courses; observe CCP teachers; review syllabi and course material to ensure high school CCP course materials meet college standards.
    • Supervise adjunct faculty for anatomy & physiology courses and other biological science courses, as assigned.
    • Review, maintain, and update the Blackboard classrooms and master courses on the learning management system (LMS).
  • Supplemental education for nursing students
    • Work in collaboration with the Nursing department to develop remediation plans for struggling students.
    • Assist with NCLEX preparation through ATI.
    • Lead group test review sessions.
    • Develop and deliver a TEAS preparation program.
    • Assist with TEAS remediation to improve low scores, resulting in increased scores, and leading to improved student outcomes.
  • Instruction
    • Teach The Human Organism, Anatomy & Physiology I and II courses, and related biological science courses, as assigned by the Dean of the School of Arts, Science, and Education.
  • Academic advising for nursing students
    • Provide intrusive advising services to assigned students in the Nursing Intent program.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills

A master’s degree in biology, medicine, or a strongly-related field. A doctoral degree is preferred. Experience working in higher education and within a nursing or pre‑nursing program strongly preferred. Three years of work experience preferred. Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and learning management system. Organizational, record‑keeping, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of subject area. Knowledge of educational theory and application.

Knowledge of learners and individual learning styles. Interest in and commitment to the learner‑centered educational process. Educational technology skills. Confidentiality. Caring attitude toward students. Learning and self‑motivation skills. Willingness to extend self to help students succeed. Knowledge of College resources available to students.
