Instructor, Medical Coding
Teaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in medical coding. Prepares students to pass the CPC examination. Essential functions include presenting facilitative, well prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus (AAPC curriculum, medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, advanced medical coding, HCPCS coding, ICD-10 coding) and school policies. Continually promotes students' development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision-making.
Ability to instruct through remote and in-person delivery (Blackboard, virtual classroom, and/or online using a Learning Management System). Provides the student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework and projects. Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance. Possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of all College policies, and actively participate in their implementation and enforcement.
Follows all retention policies of the College to ensure students are in attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications education and experience/training include being a Certified Professional Coder Instructor (CPC-I) with the AAPC, minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Coding Specialist in the field, minimum of three years of teaching or related field experience, and demonstrated experience managing key metrics. Knowledge, skills and abilities include excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, ability to assess and grade the progress of students, ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, and possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population.
Critical competencies include service focus, communication, and quality of work. Very important competencies include time utilization and collaboration. Important competencies include adaptability and continuous improvement. Preferred qualifications education and experience/training include demonstrated basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent program), demonstrated experience with online instruction, and professional presentation skills.
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; the work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated; typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
Set-rate non-bargaining part-time position: this is a part-time non-bargaining unit position, with the following set rate of pay: $30.30/hour.
