TRI-VALLEY LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

Reports to: Principal

Job Objectives: Provides individual and/or small group instruction for assigned students. Encourages parental involvement. Duties may require traveling to various sites or classes.

Qualifications
  • Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug‑free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates remediation activities to help at‑risk students improve basic academic skills.
  • Prepares the assigned instructional area, requisitions supplies and equipment, and promotes proper use and care of school property.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Encourages parent and community partnerships that enhance district programs.
  • Consults with classroom teachers to clarify assignments and instructional objectives.
  • Teaches assigned students as scheduled, documents teaching performance objectives, and creates effective learning experiences.
  • Ensures lesson plans align with state academic standards and the district’s courses of study; submits written lesson plans according to procedure.
  • Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles and reinforces concepts introduced in inclusive settings.
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures; maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment and helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
  • Facilitates critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, and creativity skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers and serves as a resource for remediation activities, sharing knowledge and resources that enhance learning.
  • Uses available technology in records management and instructional activities; upholds acceptable use policies.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time, ensuring confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares periodic student progress reports for classroom teachers and consults with parents as needed.
  • Take precautions to ensure safety, observe conduct, and work with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.
  • Makes referrals for student assistance/intervention when a need is indicated.
  • Supervises non‑classroom duties when assigned during school hours.
  • Participates in conferences, required school events, and staff meetings; engages in professional growth opportunities.
  • Encourages parent organizations and participates in school‑sponsored activities as time permits.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct and serves as a positive role model.
  • Performs other specific job‑related duties as directed.
