Job Summary
The Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences welcomes applications for a 9‑month non‑tenure track faculty position in the biology program of the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Non‑Tenure track faculty typically teach 15 contact hours per semester (undergraduate) or 30 contact hours per academic year.
- Faculty are expected to contribute to the program, department, University, and profession through appropriate service obligations, including advising of students and committee service.
- Teach undergraduate biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses as assigned (including, but not limited to, general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry).
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Evaluate and grade students’ class/lab work, assignments, and papers.
- Collect and analyze data for program and university assessment.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
- Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- Develop and use multimedia course materials and other current technology, such as online courses.
- Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- Assist department chair with continual program development.
- Participate in unit meetings and other university‑wide activities/committees.
- Conduct research in their area of expertise and seek grant funding for projects.
- Other duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Previous successful work experience with culturally diverse populations a plus.
- Can cope effectively with adversity and demonstrate leadership skills that promote collegiality and cooperation.
- Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising. Experience in curriculum and institutional assessment a plus.
- Earned Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate classroom.
- Evidence of potential for developing a research program in the area of biology, or a multidisciplinary area that fully involves and engages undergraduate students.
- Applicants with teaching experience in biology, and introductory level chemistry courses preferred.
- Must be able to teach organic and biochemistry.
