Adapted Physical Educator
Position Title:
Adapted Physical Educator (2 days per week)*
Qualifications:
- Valid Pupil Services License/Certificate issued by the Ohio Department of Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Strong knowledge of physical education principles and practices
- Adapted Physical Education endorsement
- Effective organizational and record-keeping skills
- Competence in collaboration and teamwork
- Basic understanding of legal requirements and regulations related to special education
- Documentation of a clear criminal record
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Strong understanding of different types of disabilities and their impact on physical activity
- Knowledge of adaptive physical education best practices
Reports To:
Director of Special Education
Job Objectives:
Provide interventions and evaluations informed by evidence; provide adapted instruction necessary for students to develop prerequisite motor skills for participation in physical fitness and recreational activities.
Provide interventions and evaluations informed by evidence; help students improve mobility skills within the school environment.
Adapted Physical Educator Responsibilities & Duties:
- Develop and implement individualized physical education programs for students with disabilities
- Utilize appropriate assessment, data collection and progress monitoring methods to access motor and social performance, to inform instruction and monitor progress
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure a comprehensive educational approach
- Adapt traditional physical education activities to meet the specific needs of students
- Maintain detailed records of students' progress and activities
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to address specific student needs
- Implement safety protocols and ensure a safe learning environment for all students
- Advocate for students' needs within the educational system
- Stay current with developments in adapted physical education through professional development and continuing education
- Utilize adaptive equipment and assistive technology as needed
- Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of physical education programs
- Encourage social interaction and teamwork through group activities
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
