Location: Logan
Multi-Handicapped Educational Aide
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Ohio educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to perform physical care with students that includes feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
- Ability to properly lift and move special needs students
Reports To:
- Multihandicapped Teacher
- Building Principal
- Director of Special Services
Contract Status: 9 Month
Time
Schedule:
6.5 hours per day (with 1/2 hour unpaid lunch)
Performance Responsibilities:
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
- Assist students with physical or behavioral disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
- Assist students with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
- Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
- Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
- Assist teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
- Maintain confidentiality
- Observe all channels of communication within the building as established by the principal
- Notify the principal and teachers of absence
- Monitor students who are working with individualized programmed material
- Provide assistance to the special education teacher as the instructional program is implemented
- Supervise students individually and in small groups as learning activities are conducted in accordance with teacher directions
- Assemble materials, programs, and equipment prior to the arrival of the students
- Assist teacher with bulletin boards, duplication of materials, maintaining student charts, work folders, and other clerical duties as assigned by the teacher
- Help supervise arrival and departure of students
- Monitor students in the cafeteria, restroom, hallway, playground, during field trips, school assemblies, and special events, at snack, nap time, and before and after school

- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and therapeutic holding as required, regular lifting of students
- Biological exposure to bacteria and communicate diseases
