Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Academic Advising for National Fellowships and Scholarships. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising for National Fellowships and Scholarships is a member of the Academic Advising team and reports to the Dean for Academic Advising and Support. This position provides leadership for Kenyon's national fellowships and scholarships advising, including recruiting applicants, coordinating campus selection and review processes, supporting faculty involvement, and advising students as they prepare competitive applications.
In addition to this primary focus, the Assistant Director supports the broader work of the Academic Advising Office. Responsibilities include assisting with faculty advising programs, monitoring student academic progress, supporting students facing academic challenges, and contributing to campus-wide initiatives that promote student success.
Key Position ResponsibilitiesNational Fellowships and Scholarships
The Assistant Director will coordinate and strengthen Kenyon's national fellowships and scholarships program by:
- Recruiting and supporting student applicants for nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships.
- Organizing information sessions, workshops, and outreach efforts for individual scholarship and fellowship opportunities, including the annual Sophomore Scholarship reception with the President.
- Advising students who are exploring, preparing for, or applying to nationally competitive awards.
- Identifying and publicizing fellowship and scholarship opportunities that align with student interests and institutional strengths.
- Soliciting and coordinating faculty liaisons for national fellowships and scholarships.
- Convening meetings of the faculty Fellowships Committee.
- Coordinating feedback from faculty, committee, and campus partners on student applications.
- Publicizing student and alumni fellowship successes in collaboration with appropriate campus partners.
The Assistant Director will assist the Dean for Academic Advising and Support in supporting Kenyon's faculty advising program by:
- Managing advisor reassignments related to faculty leaves, sabbaticals, and other staffing changes.
- Assisting with faculty advisor assignments, including the creation of advising teams.
- Helping plan and coordinate group advising meetings.
- Representing the Academic Advising Office at campus events such as Off-Campus Study Information Day, Sophomore Day, and other advising-related programs.
- Collaborating with the Center for Global Engagement, the Registrar’s Office, and other campus partners to support coordinated advising efforts.
- Advising students navigating the Academic Integrity Process, as directed by the Dean for Academic Advising and Support.
The Assistant Director will help monitor academic progress and provide direct support to students by:
- Communicating with faculty about student academic performance, as directed by the Dean for Academic Advising and Support.
- Preparing reports on student academic progress for the Dean.
- Managing a caseload of students, including students on Conditional Enrollment, Kenyon's academic probation program, and working to connect students to appropriate support resources on campus.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience in academic advising, student success, fellowships advising, higher education administration, or a related field.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
- Ability to manage confidential student information with discretion.
- Master’s degree or advanced degree.
- Experience advising students on nationally competitive fellowships, scholarships, graduate study, or research opportunities.
- Familiarity with selective liberal arts college environments.
- Experience coordinating committees, application processes, or campus selection procedures.
