Position OverviewAs a Renewable Energy Technician IV/V, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, commissioning, recommissioning, and repair activities on utility‑scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role requires a strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to safety excellence.
Technicians at this level are expected to work independently, support continuous improvement initiatives, mentor junior technicians, and serve as subject matter experts for renewable energy operations.
Key Responsibilities Advanced Maintenance & Troubleshooting- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on utility‑scale solar and energy storage systems.
- Conduct advanced electrical testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on energized and de‑energized systems.
- Perform live electrical work in accordance with company safety standards and industry regulations.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot medium- and high‑voltage equipment, substations, collection systems, and distribution systems.
- Recommission solar and battery storage assets through:
- IV Curve Testing
- Insulation Resistance Testing
- Thermal/Infrared Imaging
- Irradiance & Performance Testing
- Battery Capacity & Efficiency Testing
- Support engineering teams with system upgrades, retrofits, and performance improvement projects.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and develop work instructions and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Mentor, coach, and train Renewable Energy Technicians I-III.
- Evaluate and sign off on technician competencies and qualification requirements.
- Assist in developing technical training materials and best practices.
- Provide guidance to site personnel and contractors during maintenance and project activities.
- Lead daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and site‑specific safety requirements.
- Conduct equipment inspections and identify potential safety risks.
- Complete all required safety documentation and reporting.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, work orders, inventory documentation, and time‑keeping records.
- Utilize CMMS, DAS, SCADA, and other operational software systems.
- Support warranty tracking and inventory management processes.
- Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation to monitor plant performance and respond to equipment faults as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years of renewable energy, electrical, power generation, industrial maintenance, or related experience.
- Utility‑scale solar and/or battery energy storage experience strongly preferred.
- OSHA 10 Certification (or equivalent)
- GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)
- GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT)
- GWO Control of Hazardous Energies (CoHE)
- NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B (or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of utility‑scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Advanced understanding of NEC requirements and electrical safety standards.
- Experience troubleshooting medium- and high‑voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and construction documents.
- Proficiency with diagnostic and testing equipment, including:
- Multimeters
- Megohmmeters
- Ammeters
- IV Curve Tracers
- Infrared Cameras
- Albedometers
- Inclinometers
