Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates daily operations performed by hourly production colleagues to insure that work is performed safely and efficiently while meeting expected environmental quality, housekeeping and quantity levels established by the company.
- Provides employees with resources, in good working order, to safely do a job and provides necessary training needed to properly operate or wear personal protective equipment.
- Makes work assignments to all shift personnel that most effectively utilizes their experience, training and ability.
- Ensures the safety of all colleagues through compliance with occupational safety, health and environmental regulations, always maintaining an attitude that accidents are preventable, always leading by example.
- Recognizes environmental, safety, and GMP hazards and identifies, discusses, and contains them to keep from affecting colleague safety, product quality and environmental purity, making recommendations for improvements. Conducts GMP, safety, health and environmental inspections.
- Listens to and responds to colleague suggestions and concerns about safety, health, environment, product quality and housekeeping, and communications on concerns and improvement initiatives to all colleagues.
- Addresses employee concerns and maintains good communications and morale on shift and within department, and keeps plant management informed of all matters affecting the morale and safety of colleagues.
- Identifies training needs and discusses needs with Production Superintendent and develops a training plan, and then works with colleagues to develop a high level of job proficiency. Provides positive reinforcement when employees are observed producing good results and safe performance.
- Evaluates colleague performance, providing regular feedback and discusses disciplinary action with superintendents and human resources.
- Attends and participates in operation area meetings, safety meeting and supervisor’s meeting. Evaluates management programs.
- Analyzes safety incidents by preparing and completing Incident Analysis within 24 hours of incident and making suggestions for betterment.
- May perform production duties temporarily in the event of an emergency or employee absence.
- May perform reasonably similar or related duties as required.
- Previous plant processing and leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- Ability to lead and train colleagues and build teams.
- Ability to analyze information quickly to provide feedback in the manufacturing process and troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Demonstrated communication, organizational, trouble‑shooting and record‑keeping skills.
- Passion for learning; willingness to learn and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work a rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties.
- Capability to work in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and ability to wear a respirator.
