Power Plant Technician
Under general directive supervision, perform assigned operating, regulating and adjusting duties, as well as maintenance, electrical, and instrument and controls work on Simple Cycle electric generating units, auxiliaries and miscellaneous station equipment, to perform assigned switching operations on station or substation equipment, to oversee and direct the activities of other employees and contractors, to train and instruct assigned employees, and to perform other related work.
This role will pay $53.20 per hour.
Key Accountabilities
- Check with the technician being relieved for special orders and for station and area operating conditions, review logs and make a visual inspection of duty area equipment, (Detailed Shift Turnover).
- Must be willing to participate in and successfully complete required training. This shall consist of but not be limited to Incipient Fire Brigade, Incident Command, Confined Space Rescue, AED/Dfibulator/CPR.
- Perform the necessary maintenance duties related to mechanical, electrical, and instrument and controls work on Simple Cycle electric generating units, auxiliaries and miscellaneous station equipment. Perform buildings and grounds work, when necessary. Oversee and direct the activities of other employees.
- Training others as directed.
- Inspect, repair, maintain and align of all types of mechanical equipment including such work as repairing and aligning bearings of rotating equipment, the complete dismantling, repair, alignment and reassembling of prime movers, and high pressure pumps, and all associated equipment, including the associated rigging, piping, blacksmithing, bench and shop work.
- Troubleshoot, rebuild and perform maintenance, service and installation work on all circuit breakers, motor starters and compensators by adjusting, lubricating, repairing and renewing parts thereof and by removing and installing interchangeable assemblies.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, test, adjust, repair and calibrate relays, instruments and analyzers, control systems, and programmable logic controllers used in the station which involve special electronics ability. Using system tools, troubleshoot distributive control systems and determine repairs needed. Monitor, adjust, calibrate unit Cems monitoring systems, respond to alarms and correct as necessary.
- Check and monitor the central control room continually during shift for proper and economical operation of equipment in accordance with prescribed standards, react to abnormal conditions and take the appropriate corrective measures within their control for priority maintenance required on equipment. Perform in connection with assigned tasks, the necessary operating, regulating, adjusting, preventative and corrective maintenance to maintain proper output of combustion turbines, proper control of water flows, pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption, including the operation or check of operation of pumps, fans, ignition systems, and other related auxiliary and accessory equipment to insure maximum efficiency and correct output of the units.
- Perform in connection with assigned tasks the necessary operating, regulating and adjusting to maintain desired output of electric generators, transformers, busses, transmission lines, oil and air circuit breakers and associated equipment, including such operations as synchronizing, both auto and manual, switching and the replacing of fuses.
- Operate balance of plant equipment. Handle Hazardous Waste. Properly and safely of load Acid and Caustic for station use.
- Engage in, as required, the mechanical and electrical switching operations necessary to remove station or substation mechanical and electrical equipment from service and return it to service, including the preparing, giving or receiving clearance, placing or removing of hold cards in accordance with established procedures. Direct or lead other departments when performing work on site. Engage in proper use of Lockout-Tagout for isolation of Non Generation Equipment.
