Location: Germany
We are partnering with a pioneering battery technology company developing next-generation lithium-sulfur battery systems, with a strong focus on high-performance cathode architectures and pouch cell development. The organization is focused on translating advanced chemistry into scalable, industrially relevant battery solutions.
This is a unique opportunity for a Principal/Lead Scientist to play a central technical role in shaping cathode development strategy, influencing key cell architecture decisions, and advancing lithium-sulfur technology from experimental validation through industrial scale-up.
In this role, you will contribute hands-on to cathode materials development and pouch cell fabrication, electrochemical performance evaluation, and materials characterization, while working closely withcross-functional technical and engineering teams. Your work will directly support the experimental validation, scale-up readiness, and long-term reliability of the company’s core lithium-sulfur battery technology.
Why Join?
- High Technical Impact: Contribute directly to the advancement of next-generation lithium-sulfur battery technology.
- Scientific Ownership: Take ownership of cathode concepts and their translation into full pouch cell performance.
- Scale-Up Focus: Work closely with cross-functional teams to address real-world challenges in cell assembly, durability, and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize cathode materials and architectures for lithium-sulfur battery systems.
- Lead and support pouch cell fabrication, assembly, and performance evaluation activities.
- Conduct and interpret advanced electrochemical testing, including EIS, CV, rate capability, and cycling performance.
- Investigate degradation mechanisms and failure modes using SEM, XPS, and post-mortem analysis.
- Collaborate with internal teams on electrode processing steps such as coating, drying, calendering, and cell assembly.
- Support continuous improvement of cathode formulation, sulfur utilization, and overall cell performance.
- Contribute to technical documentation, patent filings, and scientific publications.
What We’re Looking For:
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience specifically in lithium-sulfur battery R&D, with clear depth in cathode development and pouch cell systems.
- Strong background in electrochemical characterization and materials analysis (e.g., EIS, CV, SEM, XPS).
- Ability to work independently on complex experimental challenges while collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Proven contributions to patents, publications, or proprietary technology development within battery-related research.
What’s on Offer:
- Compensation aligned with senior technical expertise.
- Opportunity to work on core lithium-sulfur battery technology with direct industrial relevance.
- Collaborative, science-driven environment with a strong focus on innovation and technical excellence.
- Long-term growth opportunities within a highly specialized battery technology organization.
