The Product Design Engineer role is based in our Exterior & Lighting Business Group and can be located in Munich or Weißenburg, Germany.
As a Product Design Engineer, you drive product development from the concept phase through start of production (SOP).
In close collaboration with internal experts and OEM customers, you ensure product designs meet customer requirements, follow manufacturing best practices, and achieve project targets in terms of quality, cost, and timing.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze OEM customer specifications, including gap & flush, interfaces, and styling surfaces.
- Conduct styling feasibility studies in alignment with OEM design intent.
- Define part and assembly concepts (section models, isostatism, fixation principles).
- Lead the CAD team to achieve 3D and 2D maturity in line with project milestones.
- Coordinate with OEMs and suppliers and validate CAD deliverables.
- Organize design reviews with internal stakeholders and OEM customers, and manage action plans to ensure product maturity.
- Collaborate with experts in tooling, manufacturing, and quality to optimize part design.
- Support prototype builds, tool trials, and OEM customer validation.
- Support the industrialization phase up to SOP, ensuring final part approval with OEMs.
Profile
- Master’s degree in Engineering with 3–5 years of proven experience in product design.
- Proactive, independent, and target-oriented working style.
- Strong team player, motivated to work in an international and OEM-driven environment.
- Strong knowledge of plastic design rules (shrinkage, demoulding, etc.).
- Background as CAD engineer and/or plastic part designer.
- Knowledge of 3D/2D CAD systems.
- Experience working with German OEMs is preferred.
- Fluent in English and German.
- Willingness to travel; valid driver’s license.
