Job Summary
The aerospace industry demands advanced manufacturing processes to produce high‑performance components that meet stringent safety, quality, and reliability standards. Brazing and joining of aerospace alloys are critical processes for assembling complex parts such as turbine blades, heat exchangers, and structural components, where precision and material integrity are paramount. As GE Aerospace continues to scale new engine programs, expand services, and develop future technologies, the need for specialized expertise in brazing and joining is essential to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities- Process Development and Optimization
- Design, develop, and optimize brazing and joining processes for aerospace alloys, including nickel, titanium, and aluminum‑based materials.
- Ensure processes meet stringent aerospace quality standards and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Technical Leadership
- Provide expertise in brazing techniques such as vacuum brazing, furnace brazing, and induction brazing.
- Proficiency in welding aerospace‑grade materials including nickel‑based superalloys, titanium alloys, aluminum alloys, and stainless steels.
- Understand material behavior during welding, including thermal expansion, distortion, and metallurgical changes.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for manufacturing challenges related to brazing and joining operations.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and materials in brazing and joining.
- Knowledge of NDT methods such as X‑ray, ultrasonic, and dye penetrant testing to verify weld integrity.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing principles to improve process efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for process‑related issues.
- Collaborate with the FLIGHT DECK team to align with GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model.
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Support the introduction of new products by developing robust brazing and joining processes.
- Partner with design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new processes.
- Oversee MRL development.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all brazing and joining processes comply with aerospace industry standards, including AS9100 and NADCAP requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including design engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Communicate technical updates and project progress to stakeholders.
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- U.S. Government Security Clearance required; U.S. citizenship prerequisite for clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field;
Master’s degree preferred. - 7–10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on brazing and joining aerospace alloys.
- In‑depth knowledge of brazing techniques and joining methods for aerospace applications.
- Familiarity with aerospace materials such as superalloys and lightweight alloys.
- Proficiency in process simulation tools and statistical process control (SPC).
- NADCAP certification in brazing processes highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and tools.
