Summary
The Automation/Process Engineer drives manufacturing performance at Auto Gate by implementing automation and process improvements that increase throughput, reduce labor hours, improve quality, and maximize ROI on capital investments.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, programming, and optimization of manufacturing automation systems, including robotics, cobots, and automated welding applications.
- Integrate automation technologies with existing operations and business systems (Epicor) to improve visibility, performance, and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated equipment to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production flow.
- Analyze production performance using time studies, value stream mapping, and data analysis to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Develop and implement solutions to improve material flow, increase throughput, and enhance overall production efficiency without increasing headcount whenever possible.
- Optimize fabrication and welding processes to ensure consistent, high-quality output.
- Evaluate, select, and implement capital equipment (Purchase), tooling, and automation solutions with clear ROI justification.
- Support capital planning through cost-benefit analysis, vendor coordination, and data-driven recommendations.
- Maximize equipment utilization and ensure effective return on capital investments.
- Establish and maintain standardized processes, SOPs, and best practices across manufacturing operations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive sustainable performance gains.
- Monitor key performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams to execute improvement initiatives.
- Develop and deliver training to ensure proper use and adoption of automation systems and processes.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards.
- Stay current with emerging automation technologies and identify opportunities for implementation.
- Serve as a technical resource and drive modernization of manufacturing systems and infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Automation, or related Engineering field.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation and process engineering.
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience with robotics, cobots, and HMI systems.
- 2+ years of CNC programming, tooling, or machining experience.
- 2+ years designing and integrating automation systems, including PLCs and controls.
- Strong background in process improvement, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement.
