AFIT Center Space Research & Assurance; CSRA Research Internship

The Air Force Institute of Technology Center for Space Research & Assurance (CSRA) is offering a research internship at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to conduct research in aerodynamics and atmospheric reentry. In particular, the project will leverage software to simulate dynamics and, if opportunity allows, conduct wind tunnel tests in AFIT's supersonic tunnel. An additional project involves designing a vertical chamber to test concepts for high‑altitude deceleration technologies.

• Learn how to translate novel test requirements toward the design of practical new capabilities in preparation for experiments at AFIT
• Gain experience in hands‑on data collection using AFIT's wind tunnel
• Develop skills in deploying computer simulations to investigate dynamics
• Build self‑reliance and confidence by contributing to solutions in the design and test process
• Expand interpersonal skills by collaborating with knowledgeable experts

Dayton, Ohio

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

This appointment is a two‑month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
