The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive quotations for metal fabrication, powder coating, and wet coating projects. This role analyzes Requests for Quote (RFQs), engineering drawings, specifications, and related documentation to determine material, labor, processing, and finishing costs. The Estimator works closely with Procurement, Engineering, Production, and Sales to ensure accurate pricing and support business growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop estimating strategies that support an efficient and effective quotation process.
- Review and interpret RFQs, technical drawings, specifications, and design packages.
- Analyze project requirements to identify costs and minimize financial risk.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using company ERP systems, including Paperless Parts and ECI JobBOSS.
- Calculate material, labor, fabrication, finishing, and purchased component costs based on established work center rates and production standards.
- Collaborate with Procurement to obtain current material and outsourced service pricing.
- Partner with Engineering to optimize material utilization and fabrication methods.
- Work with Production departments to identify the most efficient fabrication and finishing processes.
- Maintain performance metrics related to estimate accuracy, turnaround time, and quote win/loss ratios.
- Review and recommend updates to work center labor and overhead rates.
- Analyze completed job cost data to validate estimate accuracy and improve future estimating processes.
- Gather feedback from Production teams and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing estimating data, trends, and performance metrics.
- Support Sales and other departments as needed to achieve company objectives.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and assist with cross-functional projects when required.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication, powder coating, and wet coating processes preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems, estimating software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and continuous improvement.
