Job Summary
GE Aerospace is seeking a Systems, Steady‑state Performance, Operability, Controls, and Transient Performance (SPOCT) Leader to provide technical leadership for all performance, operability, and controls activities supporting our Small Uncrewed Engines (SUE) Development portfolio, specifically for the GEK
1500 and GE426 propulsion systems.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams and lead design trade studies, assess concept strengths, and execute design uncertainty assessments that could influence strategic focus areas and customer requirements.
- Provide expertise in gas turbine performance analysis, engine operability, control system design, and cycle optimization to balance performance requirements across multiple concurrent propulsion system programs.
- Work at the intersection of systems engineering, design engineering, controls engineering, and test engineering to deliver propulsion systems that meet or exceed all performance, operability, and control requirements.
- Define SPOCT strategies for the GEK
1500 and GE426 propulsion systems, ensuring engines meet all requirements relating to steady‑state performance, transient performance, operability, and control system integration across the full operating envelope. - Lead design space trade studies and cycle optimization activities for both programs, assessing concept strengths and weaknesses to influence strategic focus areas, customer requirements, and proposal evaluation criteria.
- Utilize Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, including CAMEO, to manage SPOCT requirements, performance data, and data exchange between SPOCT teams and adjacent disciplines.
- Lead requirement development, test planning, and qualification planning for performance and operability verification, defining performance test objectives, instrumentation requirements, and data analysis approaches.
- Provide technical oversight and mentoring to SPOCT engineers across multiple disciplines, ensuring deliverables are met for multiple concurrent programs and championing continuous improvement in SPOCT processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum 6–8 years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in one or more SPOCT primary disciplines (steady‑state performance, transient performance, preliminary cycle design, engine operability, or control systems).
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and coordinating cross‑functional activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Strong understanding of gas turbine engine performance, operability, and control system integration.
- Experience with cycle design parameters early in engine development programs and engine performance characteristics.
- Proven ability to conduct design space trade studies and influence strategic decisions.
- Advanced proficiency with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as CAMEO Systems Modeler.
- Experience with numerical propulsion system simulation tools (e.g., NPSS) or equivalent performance modeling tools.
- Experience managing SPOCT activities across multiple concurrent programs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to guide and influence others.
- Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work.
- Strong systems thinking and problem analysis skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with geographically distributed teams.
- Security clearance: must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance; final offers contingent on clearance.
- Must have access to U.S. export‑controlled information; offer contingent on authority for export‑controlled information.
- Desired:
Advanced education (master’s degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering), experience with small uncrewed or expendable propulsion systems, experience with scaled engine derivatives, both military and commercial engines, Lean Six Sigma training or certification, and exposure to both military and commercial engine design requirements.
