A data center Commissioning Engineer (CxE) implements and validates electrical and mechanical infrastructure in AWS data centers. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that reviews designs, leads Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and collaborates with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure construction and commissioning meet engineering designs and customer requirements.
Systems typically involved include power distribution, generators, UPS, HVAC (air handlers, exhaust fans, VFDs), chilled water systems, Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), testing and balancing, pumps and hydronic systems.
In addition to technical responsibilities, you will contribute to program improvements by sharing lessons learned and maintaining thorough project documentation.
Key responsibilities- Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Review design documents, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and manage third‑party commissioning vendors for onsite pre‑functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
- Own project success by analyzing issues, driving corrective actions, and adapting to changing schedules and coordination demands onsite.
- Communicate lessons learned and collaborate on program improvements.
- Provide multi‑discipline input into scheduling, test script development, design, and planning of projects.
- Review component submittal packages and perform system‑level and integrated system testing.
- Continuously audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive weekly status reports and document lessons learned to improve the program.
- Support multiple inflight projects and tight timelines.
- Coordinate with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to ensure clear paths to issue resolution.
- 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning experience with electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering for mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of relevant experience
- Ability to understand design concepts by reviewing mechanical/electrical design documentation, drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and sequences of operations, and provide feedback per Amazon standards
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
- Experience with electrical and mechanical systems in critical data center operations (feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs)
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for systems/components based on design intent and approved submittals
- Strong communication, detail orientation, organization, and ability to work in high‑stress environments with multiple teams

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Compensation includes sign‑on incentives and RSUs, with final pay determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
