Overview
The Mechanical Engineer supports new product development for the company’s Thermal global products. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the physical design and/or thermal system design of new products. This role requires a practical hands-on engineer who can start with an abstract concept and see it through to product launch. This position will support lab testing on 2nd shift with typical hours around 11am to 8pm.
Responsibilities- Create/modify mechanical parts, assemblies, and drawings in CAD systems such as Creo and Solid Edge.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) and unit configurator logic to select correct BOMs based on customer options.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Manufacturing, Service, and Quality to understand requirements and design products that meet needs.
- Assist with prototype builds by providing technical support and guidance when issues arise.
- Gather feedback from prototype builds and field trials and implement improvements to the product.
- Understand the products and suggest ideas and improvements.
- Assist with troubleshooting escalated or recurring field issues.
- Coordinate testing in the lab.
- Analyze test data, diagnose issues, and determine changes to improve performance.
- Model thermal systems to determine performance and correct part selection.
- Determine control routines needed to make the system operate optimally and meet customer requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Basic working knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts, products, and safety.
- Experience with mechanical CAD tools (Solid Edge, Creo preferred, Solid Works).
- Experience with sheet metal, piping, and assemblies is a plus.
- Data-entry systems familiarity (Oracle, Agile, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve and prevent a wide range of problems quickly and methodically.
- Detail oriented with excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and operate in cross-functional global development teams.
- Must be able to work in the lab or production facility to diagnose and solve problems.
Regular local travel between office, lab, and production facilities with minimal international travel.
