Job Summary
Responsible for performing entry level technical work and related activities associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of company equipment and facilities.
What You’ll Do- Assist employees in handling defined portions of routine problems when beneficial to AEP.
- Perform work activities as assigned and coached by higher level employees.
- Plan work in accordance with AEP standard planning practices and prioritize routine work.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Apply technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems encountered in assigned work.
- Use initiative to look for opportunities to improve processes and increase job knowledge and technical skills.
- Seek out, compile, analyze, and interpret information necessary to perform work activities and solve problems.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and papers.
- Act as a team player and relate to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner.
- Develop decision‑making skills based on sound judgment and job knowledge.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of the local organizational unit.
- Customer Design Technician (Assoc.) – High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience, or an associate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields.
- Customer Design Technician – Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience.
- Customer Design Technician Sr. – Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields with a minimum of 4 years of related utility industry work experience, OR high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Light work requiring walking or standing for significant periods; occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and tolerate adverse conditions while patrolling distribution power lines.
- Carry and handle equipment weighing up to 11 pounds; may also use a brush axe or machete.
Must live within a safe driving distance of one of the following service centers:
Lucasville, Wellston, Seaman, or South Point.
Compensation ranges by level:
Customer Design Technician (Assoc.) $31.72 – $32.50;
Customer Design Technician $36.41 – $38.00;
Customer Design Technician Sr. $43.17 – $45.50.
