Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support a major nuclear power project in Oak Harbor, Ohio. This is an outstanding contract-to-hire opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in instrumentation, control systems, and power generation. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and supporting complex control system designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while contributing to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute engineering assignments requiring independent judgment and technical decision-making.
  • Develop innovative solutions by adapting established engineering methods and procedures to complex technical challenges.
  • Lead the development of instrumentation and control engineering deliverables, including:
    • Instrument Indexes
    • Instrument Data Sheets
    • Control System Data Sheets
    • Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) documentation
    • I/O Lists
    • Process Control Narratives
  • Design and support Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
  • Prepare engineering studies, technical specifications, equipment evaluations, cost estimates, and proposal reviews.
  • Recommend and evaluate instrumentation and control system components for procurement.
  • Apply industry standards, engineering codes, and best practices to all design activities.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support training initiatives by sharing technical expertise with team members and clients.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging instrumentation and controls technologies and engineering practices.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting project schedules and quality expectations.
  • Support field activities and provide engineering assistance during installation, commissioning, and startup when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience.
  • Strong background in instrumentation engineering and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including one or more of the following: ABB, Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, Mark VIe, Micro Net.
  • Knowledge of control systems for gas boilers and turbine applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as:
    Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, Navisworks, 2D and/or 3D CAD platforms.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, industry codes, and design practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel and work in both office and field environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting nuclear or conventional power generation projects.
  • Experience developing instrumentation specifications and control system documentation.
  • Familiarity with commissioning and startup support activities.
  • Previous experience mentoring engineers or technical staff.
