Mechanical Development Engineer – Exterior Customer Experience

Are you looking to work for a company that provides an innovative work environment where your voice is heard? We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Development Engineer – Exterior Customer Experience to work onsite at our client in Raymond, OH.

What you will be doing

As a Mechanical Development Engineer, you will help ensure that vehicle exterior systems deliver the quality, appearance, functionality, and overall customer experience expected in today's automotive market.

This role goes beyond traditional mechanical testing. You'll evaluate how exterior systems perform from the customer's perspective, coordinating both virtual and physical validation activities to ensure vehicles meet performance, quality, and marketability targets. When issues are identified, you'll work cross-functionally to develop engineering countermeasures that balance customer expectations, technical requirements, timing, and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Validate vehicle exterior systems through computational and physical testing to ensure they meet customer expectations for quality, appearance, and functionality.
  • Evaluate the overall marketability and customer experience of exterior vehicle systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute exterior development and performance testing activities.
  • Arrange test facilities, technician support, and required testing materials.
  • Support physical testing by confirming test setups are accurate and procedures are executed correctly.
  • Analyze engineering data and communicate findings to technical leadership.
  • Document development, validation, and research activities according to project schedules.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and develop engineering countermeasures for performance concerns.
  • Collaborate with design, testing, and cross-functional engineering teams to continuously improve vehicle exterior performance.

What you'll need to be successful

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0–6 years of engineering experience (internships and co-op experience welcomed).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.

Preferred

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • CATIA or Solid Works
  • FEA software including Abaqus, Nastran, Hyper Mesh, ANSA, Meta, or LS-DYNA
  • Python, MATLAB, or Java scripting
  • Engineering data analysis and presentation to technical leadership
