Facility Engineer – Mechanical

Spec Pro Sustainment and Environmental (SSE) is seeking a Facility Engineer – Mechanical to support the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) Military Construction (MILCON) program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio.

The Facility Engineer will serve as a dedicated Project Delivery Team (PDT) member and provide senior mechanical engineering advisory services supporting the design, construction, operation, reliability, and sustainment of highly available intelligence mission facilities. This position requires extensive mechanical/HVAC expertise, an Ohio Professional Engineer license, and experience supporting secure facility construction.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Apply Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 705 requirements to support compliant construction designs and plans.
  • Review construction designs and plans for compliance with applicable secure facility requirements.
  • Coordinate construction contractor and customer interfaces during construction.
  • Provide advanced facility engineering, operations, planning, and programming support for NSIC operating locations.
  • Provide mechanical system reliability and resiliency engineering supporting highly available intelligence mission facilities.
  • Identify mechanical system risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in developing, executing, and monitoring facility maintenance and sustainment programs.
  • Provide technical expertise for HVAC and control systems design, construction, operation, and sustainment.
  • Support facility planning and operations in accordance with applicable regulatory codes and standards.
  • Review designs and construction activities for compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and other applicable requirements.
  • Support SCIF modification and construction projects throughout design and construction.
  • Prepare and support monthly mechanical system reliability reporting.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, the security clearance required for the position, up to and including Top Secret (TS) with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) access.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) in the State of Ohio.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in HVAC and control systems design.
  • Familiarity with ICD 705 construction requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of facility mechanical system reliability and resiliency.
  • Knowledge of UFC, ABA, NFPA, NEC, and other applicable facility design and construction requirements.
  • Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, submittals, and construction documents.
  • Ability to identify technical and operational risks and develop appropriate mitigation recommendations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant facility/mechanical engineering experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio (Mechanical) required.
  • Extensive experience with HVAC and control systems design required.
  • Familiarity with ICD 705 construction required.
  • Experience with MILCON, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other secure facility construction is highly desirable.

Work Location:

  • Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
  • Position will support both office-based engineering activities and active construction operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform desk work for extended periods, including sitting and using a computer.
  • Ability to access and inspect active construction areas and mechanical spaces as required.

Work Environment:

  • Work will be performed in office, facility, mechanical, and active construction environments.
  • Site activities may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, airborne particles, fumes, chemicals, loud noises, and other typical construction-site conditions.
