New River Electrical Corporation is seeking a Manager, Substation Engineering to lead high-voltage substation design projects for utility and large industrial clients. In this role, you will manage engineering teams delivering safe, reliable, and constructible substation solutions across multiple regions. Responsibilities include overseeing physical and electrical designs, ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, and utility standards, coordinating with construction and project management, and supporting proposals and estimates.
You will mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and help shape critical power infrastructure in an employee-owned, safety-first, growth-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of high-voltage substation projects from concept through commissioning
- Oversee engineering teams, consultants, and CAD/design resources to meet scope, schedule, and budget
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, NESC, IEEE, and company safety and quality procedures
- Review and approve engineering calculations, studies, drawings, and technical specifications
- Coordinate closely with construction, field, and project management teams for constructible designs
- Manage client relationships, project reviews, and technical presentations to utility customers
- Drive standardization, continuous improvement, and adoption of best practices in substation design
- Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical guidance and performance feedback
- Support proposals, estimates, and work planning for new substation and transmission opportunities
- Promote a strong safety culture and risk management across all engineering activities
Required Skills
- Substation physical and electrical design
- High-voltage engineering (transmission and distribution)
- Short-circuit and load flow studies
- Protection and control fundamentals
- Auto
- CAD or similar CAD platforms
- Substation design and modeling software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, CYME)
- Project management and scheduling
- Technical writing and drawing review
- Knowledge of NESC and IEEE standards
- Client and stakeholder communication
