Belcan is seeking a Draftsman / Designer to support a long-term engineering opportunity at a major industrial manufacturing facility in the Natrium, WV area. This position will support a variety of plant engineering and improvement projects and is an excellent opportunity for an experienced designer or a mechanically inclined early-career professional looking to build a long-term career in industrial design.

The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with AutoCAD, and the ability to work across multiple types of drafting and design projects. Experience in a chemical plant, manufacturing, engineering, or other industrial environment is preferred, but candidates with transferable mechanical or drafting experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain drawings and design documentation supporting plant engineering projects.
  • Perform mechanical and civil drafting activities, including:
    Piping, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), General arrangements, Civil layouts, Structural drawings.
  • Perform field walk-downs and accurately collect field measurements to support design and drawing development.
  • Translate field information into accurate drawings, job packages, and design documentation.
  • Create, organize, and maintain equipment files and related design information.
  • Load and maintain equipment and design information within internal databases and systems.
  • Work closely with in-house engineers to support both capital and maintenance projects.
  • Support and coordinate small projects under the direction and collaboration of engineering personnel.
  • Interface professionally with contractors and outside engineering firms.
  • Apply company engineering standards, procedures, and systems to assigned work.
  • Work effectively with plant personnel and other internal stakeholders to gather information and support project requirements.
  • Take ownership of assigned work, identify what needs to be done, and follow projects through to completion.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all drawings and documentation.
Qualifications
- Required:
  • 2+ years of drafting, design, mechanical, engineering, or closely related experience OR a recent graduate of a trade, technical, or college program with relevant drafting/mechanical training.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, with the ability to become proficient in AutoCAD 2026.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic mechanical concepts.
  • Ability to accurately perform field measurements and translate field conditions into drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, and plant personnel.
Preferred:
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant drafting/design experience.
  • Experience in a chemical plant, manufacturing, engineering, construction, or other industrial environment.
  • Experience with piping, P&IDs, civil, structural, or general arrangement drawings.
  • Experience supporting plant engineering, capital projects, maintenance projects, or site development.
  • Experience working with equipment documentation, engineering databases, or similar information-management systems.

Work Environment

This is primarily an office-based position located within an industrial plant environment.

Approximately 80% of the work will be performed in an office setting and 20% will involve field activity, including plant walk-downs, field measurements, and interaction with plant personnel.

The position will support a combination of capital and maintenance projects, with opportunities to assist with small projects under the direction of in-house engineers.

Candidates with a variety of mechanical or industrial backgrounds may be considered. Chemical plant experience is not required if the candidate has strong mechanical knowledge, drafting/design experience, AutoCAD skills, or a relevant technical education.
