Overview

Patient Services Representative (Healthcare)

The Patient Service Representative performs a variety of service functions including answering inquiries from patients and visitors; entering information into computer systems; using telephones and pages; tracking patient families; relaying information from Pre-op, OR and PACU to patients' families; assisting with moving patients from waiting area to Pre-op; maintaining a clean and organized lobby area; and transporting patients. Maintains computer competency and performs clerical/computer duties as requested.

Responsibilities
  • Checks in patients/visitors and identifies which visitors belong to which patients.
  • Escorts visitors to conference rooms for updates on patient condition by physicians; runs errands; answers questions from patients and visitors.
  • Enters information into computer systems; answers telephones and pages; assists in record keeping; transports patients.
  • Maintains a pleasant, clean lobby environment; provides information on location of restrooms, cafeteria, etc.
  • Promotes customer satisfaction in a consistent manner through positive interactions with patients, visitors, and fellow staff members.
  • Participates in the patient care team concept of Surgical Services to achieve the organization’s mission and purpose.
  • Reports unusual occurrences such as changes in patient conditions or attitudes, and problems or accidents involving visitors; follows safety measures for patients, coworkers, and self.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as requested. Provides emotional/spiritual support to perioperative patients and significant others. Ensures privacy, comfort and safety needs of patients are met.
  • Assembles charts and performs clerical/computer work as requested.
  • All other duties not specifically assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: One (1) to two (2) years in customer service, business, and/or healthcare preferred; three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the field or profession preferred.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Knowledge of computer operation and skills in both Word and Excel.
  • Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Heart Saver Preferred.
