Surgical First Assistant

Schedule:

36 hours per week / 2‑8 hour shifts / 2‑10 hour shifts and call shifts required. Full‑time. Minimal On‑Call Requirement.

Fairlawn, OH. Hospital 3557 Embassy Pkwy. On‑site. Specialties:
Operating Room, First Assisting, Orthopaedics, Plastics.

• Work closely with surgeons in the operating room during a surgical procedure.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, controlling bleeding, closing the incision, among other technical tasks.
• Interact with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other health‑care staff.
• Provide support for surgical procedures by serving as a general assistant to nurses and physicians and by preparing the operating rooms with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Position the patient and tend to the patient’s warmth and comfort needs.
• Assist in positioning the surgery to give the best exposure; inspect and prepare skin for the procedure.
• Demonstrate proficiency in suturing; assist in visualizing the operative site by placing and securing retractors; manipulate tissue digitally, suction, irrigate, or sponge.

• Education:
  
  Completion of a first assisting program.
• Experience:
  
  Three (3) to Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in the field or profession preferred.
• Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
  Completion of an approved CST/CSFA program (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or military training.
• BLS preferred.
