Muskingum University invites applications for a counselor in our Counseling Center. This position provides specialized mental health counseling and developmental support for students with learning differences and those on the autism spectrum. The counselordelivers faculty, staff, and student training and collaboratesclosely with the PLUS program, Disability Resources Services, faculty, Student Experience, and other staff to ensure a coordinated,holistic approach to student success.
MAJORRESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual and groupcounseling servicestoneurodivergent students (e.g.,those withautism, ADHD, learning differences, and sensory processing differences), with an emphasis on anxiety management, executive functioning, and adjustment to college life
- Provide clinical services, including psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation
- Psycho-educational responsibilities inclue developing and implementingan experiential curriculum focused on social skills, communication, and emotional awarenessthat support student persistence, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and social integration.
- Develop and implement structured interventions related to time management, organization, and self-advocacy
- Support students in navigating social relationships, conflict resolution, and campus expectations
- Provide crisis intervention, clinical triage, case management, and referrals to on-campus and off-campus resources
- Collaborate with the PLUS Program teamand Student Experience staffto coordinate care plans
- Provide psycho educational workshops on topics such as coping strategies, resilience, and social skills
- Assist students in understanding and adhering to institutional policies, includingcommunity standard sand Title IX expectations
- Maintain appropriate documentation in compliance with ethical and legal standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAAas applicable)
- Monitor trends in studentutilizationand contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement
- Provide consultation to the university communityregardingpsychological and developmental needs of neurodivergent students

REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Licensure or license-eligibility in the state of Ohio (e.g.,LPC,LPCC, LISW)
- Experience working with neurodivergent populations, including autismspectrumand learning differences
- Demonstrated ability to support executive functioning development and transition-to-college challenges
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Familiarity with disability services and accommodations
- Training in cognitive-behavioral or solution-focused therapeutic approaches
- Clinical judgment and ethical practice
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Developmental advising mindset
- Cultural competence and inclusive practice
