Job DescriptionTitle: Registered Behavior Tech (RBT)

Employment Status: Temporary based on annual contract. Stipend eligible based on caseload.
FLSA Status: Eligible for Overtime
Description: The Registered Behavior Technician is responsible for implementing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans to help students improve social and behavioral skills. The RBT collects data, monitors client progress, and supports behavior reduction and skill.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement behavior intervention plans and skill acquisition programs as designed by the supervising special education staff and BCBA.
- Provide behavior support services through group or one on one sessions.
- Collect accurate session data on client behaviors, skill progress, and treatment outcomes.
- Assist with behavior management and de-escalation strategies when challenging behaviors occur using Handle with Care. All RBT's will be trained in this program.
- Maintain detailed notes and documentation in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Communicate regularly with intensive behavior support teams to ensure progress and plan follow through.
- Collaborate with team members including intervention specialists, paraprofessionals, building administration, special education administration and supervising BCBA.
- Maintain client confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Participate in required training, supervision meetings, and continuing education.
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
- Perform other duties assigned by the teacher, supervisor and/or principal.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Knowledge of equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective operations for the protection of students, staff and district property.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance including individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.
Skills
- Skilled in active listening, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Skilled in managing student’s behavior; redirecting inappropriate behavior and rewarding appropriate behavior.
- Skilled in critical thinking and decision making by considering potential actions and choosing the most appropriate one.
Abilities
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to participate in professional development as needed.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, and move quickly during sessions.
- Ability to lift or carry up to 25–50 pounds if necessary.
- Ability to work on the floor and engage in play-based activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or related field preferred.
- Appropriate certification from the Ohio Department of Education (Educational Aide Permit).
- Must have ESEA Endorsement on license.
- Current Registered Behavior Technician certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to pass background check and meet state requirements.
- Reliable transportation (if providing in-home/community services).
