Medical Assistant
Location:
Brookville
Day shift, 40 hours weekly (Monday‑Friday, 7:00–5:00 based on practice needs).
Responsibilities- Answer and triage incoming telephone calls, respond to questions, take messages, schedule appointments or transfer calls as needed.
- Maintain the appointment schedule based on urgency, exam length, and patient convenience.
- Confirm next‑day appointments by contacting patients, reminding them of the appointment time, and rescheduling delays when possible.
- Greet patients upon arrival, collect co‑payments, and verify patient and insurance information following RHPA guidelines.
- Update EPIC with accurate patient and insurance information, attach insurance cards, registration forms, and patient superbills.
- Prepare new patient charts and pull charts, attaching superbills and notifying the medical assistant or appropriate party of arrivals.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, obtain patient signatures on insurance forms.
- Inform patients of delays and explain alternatives when possible.
- Coordinate the business and office schedules for the provider(s).
- Check out patients, collect additional payments, enter CPT and ICD‑10 codes, and post charges and payments daily.
- Balance the cash drawer and prepare deposits for the practice manager to take to the bank.
- Assist patients with billing questions and refer complex issues to the practice manager.
- Sort, distribute, and file mail, lab results, transcriptions, and other patient data via the document management system on established timelines.
- Process medical record requests for patients and other healthcare providers on established timelines.
- Perform all duties respecting confidentiality and the safety of patients, employees, and providers.
- Adhere to quality principles and standards set by Reid Health.
- Follow up with patients who canceled or no‑showed appointments.
- Monitor the patient portal, payor coverage portal, and email daily.
- Minimum six months of clerical experience with a general understanding of insurance preferred; prior work in a provider or medical office setting is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
