Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine individuals' levels of receptive and expressive speech and language skills, swallowing skills, and social/pragmatic skills. Develop, modify, and implement individual and group therapy and treatment programs to enhance communication and address swallowing deficiencies. Prevent asphyxiation through recommendations on food texture and liquid consistency. Conduct functional assessments within typical contexts to evaluate cognitive linguistic functions. Design and personally deliver speech, language, and dysphagia management services, including training for those using hearing aids and conducting language skills development.
Provide in-service training to staff on speech-language techniques and protocols for effective therapy delivery. Act as a sign language interpreter as necessary. Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide professional insights and goal planning for individuals' treatment and care. Attend meetings, workshops, and seminars to enhance professional skills and knowledge. Counsel and inform guardians and family members regarding speech-language, hearing, and swallowing issues.
Compose and complete reports, lesson plans, and other necessary documents to track progress of treatment and therapy programs. Utilize office systems software and specialized communication software to create, edit, and store records and reports. Maintain electronic augmentative communication devices and hearing aids.
