The Registered Polysomnography Tech (RPSGT or RST) works under the supervision of the Sleep Center leadership team to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This involves polysomnography, diagnostic, and therapeutic services regarding patient care or education. Essential job functions include preparing the patient, explaining the procedure, reviewing clinical data from patient medical records and by patient interview, operating polysomnographic equipment to obtain diagnostic recordings, deciphering normal from abnormal results, documenting detailed, accurate technical reports, reviewing studies with physicians, administering various neurodiagnostic procedures, monitoring the quality of tests, following hospital and departmental policies, maintaining a clean work area, coordinating patient scheduling, receiving patient payments, reviewing patient charges, assisting with general office tasks, demonstrating proficiency in the neurodiagnostic field, performing sleep staging and event scoring per American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines, troubleshooting polysomnographic and office equipment.

Licensing/Certification: BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, required before patient care), Polysomnography State Licensure if applicable based upon state of practice, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (required upon hire in South Carolina, in addition, permanent Exemption for Ventilation by Non-RCPs required for all non-RT's & RT's whose license is no longer active in South Carolina), Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) in state of practice
- Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) credential.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Work Experience:

At least one year of previous experience in neurophysiology or sleep disorders medicine (preferred).

Patient Population:
Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infant (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older).

Working Conditions:

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May have periods of constant interruptions. May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. General office environment. May be required to car travel to alternative locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting/Carrying (0-50 lbs.), Lifting/Carrying (50-100 lbs.), Push/Pull (0-50 lbs.), Push/Pull (50-100 lbs.), Stoop, Kneel, Crawling, Climbing, Balance, Bending. Work Position:
Sitting, Walking, Standing. Additional Physical Requirements/Hazards:
Manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination), shift work, maneuver weight of patients, hear alarms/telephone/computer audio, reach above shoulder, repetitive arm/hand movements, finger dexterity, acuity - far, acuity - near, use of latex products, potential exposure to infectious disease.
