The Sterile Processing Technician I provides clean and sterile supplies and equipment through decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilization and storage with inventory of all surgical instrumentation. Cleans, sterilizes and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments according to prescribed procedures and techniques. They support the surgical patient care team by performing multifunctional activities.
Essential Job Functions/AccountabilitiesSets up all instrument trays utilizing appropriate instrument count sheet. Maintains proper documentation in monitoring of sterilization records. Maintains daily records of all equipment and trays sterilized in steam and gas plasma sterilizers. Demonstrates consistent application of sterile processing standards.
Applies proper reprocessing procedures and demonstrates competence and skill in the use/operation of all essential equipment in the Central Processing setting, including but not limited to ultra- sonic washers, washer Decontaminators, and steam sterilizers.
Performs a variety of cleaning duties. Cleans, disinfects laryngoscopes and glide scopes. Cleans, inspects and maintains instruments/equipment and supplies all equipment is maintained in good working order.
Assures proper working condition of equipment through quality assurance testing and reports any and all problems with equipment or facility needs.
Acts as liaison with individuals responsible for ordering supplies for sterile processing. Delivers and unloads supplies to appropriate areas and restocks supplies as needed.
Responds to requests from nursing staff and others by locating instrumentation and supplies.
Assists in emergency situations as assigned.
All other duties not specifically assigned.
Position RequirementsEducation:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years of experience preferred.
