Job Overview
Job Summary: A Technical Trainer I has substantial knowledge in basic skills and is able to perform intermediate tasks and procedures. The technician is familiar with study work, and performing tasks for basic studies. Provides leadership and technical guidance in the laboratory. Collects and records data with minimal supervision. Capable of training for handling and restraining animals, clinical observations, sample collection, monitoring food consumption, animal husbandry, performing accurate data collection, and administering test substances by basic, and intermediate methods.
Handles, restrains, and provides care for all species of laboratory animals at the site. Works with scientific staff to develop new techniques and/or models.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals worked with through gentle, positive human animal interactions.
- Work with department management to coordinate and/or provide routine technical training for
- department personnel.
- Assist in providing, coordinating, and scheduling new hire orientation and on-the-job training for all
- personnel.
- Ensure that all training provided meets quality and regulatory requirements.
- Help maintain, develop, and update all documents and databases used for the support and conduct of
- training.
- Assist with the development, training, revision and quality review of internal processes.
- Perform technical tasks to support completion of study tasks (as needed).
- Assist with the development, training, and implementation of new technical procedures.
- Become familiar with AALAS and certifications.
- Practice/maintain basic and intermediate technical skills and procedures as per standard processes.
- Report on progress of employees following training sessions.
- Maintain teaching laboratory area, training animal colony, and equipment in compliance with
- applicable SOPs, BOPs, and Charles River training directives.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
The pay for this position is $23 – 25/hr please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
Qualifications
Job Description
- Education:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred. Associate (A.A./A.S.) or - Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a biological science, desired.
- Experience:
1 year of relevant experience and satisfactory performance. Multi-species experience - preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute
- for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure:
None, unless required by local government. - Training plan completed for this role based on department training plan.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside the organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of English.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
- Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
