The Community Developer Evangelist role is at the heart of this mission. By engaging directly with developers, contributors, and open-source enthusiasts, this role ensures that own Cloud remains more than just software - it remains a thriving community. Through advocacy, mentorship, and storytelling, the Evangelist helps grow and strengthen the ecosystem that keeps open-source innovation alive.
The Community Developer Evangelist is a hybrid role that combines community management and developer advocacy to foster a vibrant open-source ecosystem for own Cloud. This position serves as the primary bridge between the company, its open-source community, and external developers. By nurturing relationships, promoting the project, and facilitating contributions, you ll drive community growth, gather valuable feedback, and align community efforts with own Cloud s strategic goals.
This role is ideal for a technically savvy communicator who thrives in collaborative, dynamic environments and is passionate about open-source software.
- Community Engagement and Moderation:
Moderate forums, Discord, Git Hub discussions, and other channels to ensure positive interactions; address questions, resolve disputes, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants. - Event and Program Coordination:
Organize and host community events such as meetups, hackathons, webinars, and mentorship programs; recognize and reward contributors through shoutouts, swag, or featured spotlights to encourage ongoing participation. - Project Promotion and Evangelism:
Evangelize own Cloud through demos, presentations, blog posts, conference talks, and social media; highlight features, success stories, and contribution opportunities to attract new users and developers. - Technical Support and Mentorship:
Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to community developers; contribute to upstream code, documentation, and bug fixes while reviewing pull requests and onboarding new contributors. - Feedback and
Collaboration:
Gather community feedback on features, bugs, and roadmaps; relay insights to internal teams (e.g., engineering, product, marketing) to influence development priorities and ensure alignment between community needs and company objectives. - Partnerships and Relationship Building:
Manage partnerships with stakeholders, influencers, and other open-source projects; build relationships at industry events and online to expand own Cloud s reach and attract top talent. - Content and Resource Creation:
Improve project discoverability by creating and maintaining updated documentation, tutorials, contributor handbooks, and educational content; translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences. - Metrics and Reporting:
Track community health metrics (e.g., engagement levels, contribution rates, event attendance) and report on the impact of initiatives to demonstrate ROI and guide future strategies.
- Experience:
3+ years in community management, developer relations, or a similar role within open-source projects or tech companies; proven track record of building and engaging developer communities. - Technical
Skills:
Strong understanding of open-source tools and practices (e.g., Git Hub, PHP, JavaScript for own Cloud); ability to code, debug, and contribute to projects; familiarity with file sync/share technologies is a plus. - Communication
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present technical topics engagingly to both technical and non-technical audiences; experience with content creation (blogs, videos, demos). - Interpersonal
Skills:
Empathetic and diplomatic, with a knack for conflict resolution and relationship-building; passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion in tech communities. - Language Skill:
English C2 Proficiency, German, French, Spanish C1 Advanced is an advantage. - Organizational
Skills:
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, events, and stakeholders; comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment. - Education:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience); certifications in community management or developer advocacy are advantageous
