IT Support, Hardware Engineer
Job - Amazon Data Services, Inc.
As a Data Center Technician, you will maintain the hardware and network infrastructure that powers Amazon Web Services data centers worldwide. Your responsibilities will include hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and participation in an on‑call rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Perform server rack installations and hardware break‑fix on various components.
- Troubleshoot network issues and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability.
- Carry out routine server, network, and operating system repairs to maintain AWS service availability.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, vendors, and contractors.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance, change‑management activities, and on‑call duties.
- Contribute to documentation and process‑improvement initiatives based on operational analysis.
- Interview, train, and onboard new team members.
- Lift and move material up to 40 pounds.
- Work in cramped or elevated locations; bend, stretch, and reach frequently.
- Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day.
- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
- Work in industrial environments and shift longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (night, day, weekend, holiday).
- Travel to data center sites, including those under development, as required for training or operational needs.
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods.
- Travel frequency may vary based on business needs and facility status.
- Must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites.
- 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
- 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair).
- Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Experience working in a data center or critical environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional or military experience in an IT‑related field.
- Industry‑standard certifications (CompTIA, CCENT, Network+).
- Understanding of Linux or similar operating systems.
- Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience.
- Experience training and onboarding new team members.
The base hourly rate for this position ranges from USD 30.00 to USD 54.00. Your package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Comprehensive benefits include health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
