The primary purpose of the role is to focus on the successful management of specific client portfolios and relevant market activity within the Specialty Team. The role holder will take responsibility for maintaining, and building new business which profitably grows the business and minimises loss exposures. As Lead Underwriter, you will report to the Head of Financial Risks.

• Generate and manage business on a client-relationship basis for specific portfolio, product groups and platforms within MSRe, with a particular focus on Credit, Bond and Political Risk lines
• Ensure risks are written within agreed parameters, making sound long-term decisions on risks written with a focus on sound underwriting rationale
• Identify and grow opportunities with new clients, where appropriate
• Analyse the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the portfolios and products, and deliver designated elements of the MSRe strategy and business plan
• Collaborate, where appropriate, with other portfolios, products, relevant resources and colleagues across regions to leverage relationships and opportunities
• Mentor and manage team members by providing coaching, technical guidance and quality oversight to support development and consistent underwriting standards
• Liaise with underwriting management to ensure compliance, taking corrective action as necessary and operating within agreed authorities
• Provide effective input into underwriting performance
• Participate proactively in product forum meetings, as appropriate, and challenge/respond to discussions on product performance
• Provide relevant exposure and management reports on the region/product, as required
• Carry out the role in accordance with the Company’s Business Ethics policy and all applicable regulatory requirements

• Minimum of 10- 15 years underwriting or broking experience with experience in Credit, Bond and Political Risk lines preferred
• Possession of an industry related certification is required, preferably CPCU, Are or ACII
• Good knowledge and proven experience of handling new and renewal business
• Experience with portfolio management
• Able to demonstrate achievement of client centric value propositions
• Established market relationships with clients, brokers and other distribution channels, with a strong client-service orientation
• Demonstrated ability to originate and grow broker- and client-led opportunities, and to lead client meetings independently
• Competent in pricing risks within the area of authority
• Good understanding of all relevant contract terms and conditions
• Effective stakeholder management across lines of business to coordinate account strategy and deliver outcomes for clients and brokers
• Good level of influencing and negotiating skills
