Environmental Underwriter Trainee

Overview

Underwriter Trainee – Environmental Division, Great American Insurance Group. Join our Exton, PA office as a new graduate or early‑career environmental professional. This role focuses on risk selection, pricing, and growth of environmental insurance products.

• Participate in activities related to risk selection, rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability per divisional objectives.
• Review, summarize, and interpret environmental reports (Phase I assessments, investigations, and other technical documents).
• Work with the underwriting team to learn pricing, coverage analysis, and business development.
• Assess risk quality and compliance, and initiate loss prevention actions.
• Use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
• Assist senior underwriters during visits to agents, brokers, and producers, retaining existing accounts and building new opportunities.
• Interpret, explain, and market products and services.
• Apply underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline with an environmental focus.
• 0‑2 years of insurance or environmental consulting experience preferred.
• Strong MS Office skills and proficiency with technology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Recent science or engineering graduate or early‑career environmental professional.
