Insurance Sales
Location: Shanesville
Job Description
The opportunity
Some people are wired to chase the next sale. You’re wired to take care of the people already here — and do it right.
This is the role where our clients actually experience what our name means. When someone calls after a fender bender, adds a teenage driver, buys their first home, or just needs help understanding their coverage, you’re the voice on the other end.
You’ll learn a trade that takes years to master, work alongside owners who train and invest in their people, and build a career — not just clock hours.
About us
Tom Hamsher Insurance Agency is a family‑owned, independent agency that has served our community for over 60 years. We’re rooted in a simple philosophy: providing a path forward before the unthinkable happens.
We work and live where our clients do, we represent dozens of top carriers instead of just one, and we do the right thing every single day. You’ll never be just a number here — and neither will the people you serve.
Who you are
- You actually like helping people. Not tolerate it — like it. A frustrated caller who hangs up relieved is a good day.
- You’re steady under pressure. Claims days are hard days for our clients. You stay calm so they can.
- Details don’t slip past you. In this business, one wrong number on a policy is a real problem for a real family.
- You follow through. If you say you’ll follow up Thursday, you follow up Thursday.
- You’re teachable. Insurance is genuinely complex. Nobody walks in knowing it — the good ones stay curious.
What we offer
- Paybasedon experience and licensing, with a raise when you earn your license
- $25 bonus for every policy you write
. Help a client, get paid for it. There’s no cap. - The opportunity to earn your life license and earn commission on life sales — a second income stream, and we’ll pay for the license
- Employer-paid health insurance, plus dental, vision, and paid time off
- We pay for your Property & Casualty license and your continuing education. You don’t front a dime to build your credentials.
- Real training from owners who are in the building, not a corporate call center script
- A clear path forward. Many people in this kind of role grow into senior account management, production, or specialized insurance roles.
- A stable, family‑run agency where your name is known and your work is seen
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Health Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- Hands on Training
- Mon‑Fri Schedule
- Retirement Plan
What you’ll do
- Be the first friendly voice our clients hear by phone, email, and walk‑in
- Handle the everyday work that matters: policy changes, endorsements, certificates, billing questions, , and coverage updates
- Walk clients through claims and stay with them until the next step is clear
- Help clients with new quote opportunities when they come in, instead of automatically handing warm opportunities off to someone else
- Round out accounts when there is a real need. Someone insuring their car may also need coverage for their home, boat, umbrella, or life insurance. You’ll spot the gap, start the conversation, and get paid when you write the policy.
- Review coverage at renewal and speak up when you see a gap someone could fall through
- Work directly with carrier reps to get answers and solve problems
- Keep our records clean and accurate in our agency management system
What you’ll need
- A strong work ethic and a service mindset. This matters more to us than experience.
- An Ohio Property & Casualty license, or the willingness to earn one. We’ll pay for it and help you study.
- Comfort with computers and the patience to learn our systems.
- Clear, warm communication — written and spoken.
- Insurance or customer service background is a plus, not a requirement.
