Sign Language Interpreter

Jabil, Inc. is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing employees/visitors and hearing individuals within our manufacturing and corporate environments. This role ensures equal access to information and fosters an inclusive workplace.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and impartial interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant sign languages and spoken English (or Spanish, depending on company location needs) in various settings, including meetings, training sessions, performance reviews, interviews, and general workplace interactions.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all interpreted information in accordance with professional ethical standards and company policy.
  • Adapt interpretation style and vocabulary to suit the specific context, subject matter, and communication preferences of individuals involved.
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials, understanding technical terminology, and familiarizing oneself with meeting agendas or discussion topics.
  • Collaborate with HR, management, and employees to understand specific communication needs and proactively address potential barriers.
  • Educate hearing employees on best practices for communicating with deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Potentially assist with translation of written materials into sign language concepts, as needed.
  • Adhere to Jabil's safety protocols and workplace conduct policies.

Job Qualifications

  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English (and/or Spanish, depending on regional requirements) with demonstrated proficiency in both expressive and receptive interpreting.
  • Certification from a recognized interpreting body (e.g., RID, BEI) is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience as a professional sign language interpreter, preferably in a corporate or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and communication nuances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain neutral and objective.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Proficiency with various communication technologies and platforms.
  • Ability to maintain composure and accuracy under pressure.
