Legal Counsel

Job Overview

We are seeking a talented lawyer to join our legal team at DC Thomson in Dundee, Scotland. The successful candidate will be a UK-qualified solicitor with post‑qualifying experience, actively participating in a small, collaborative legal department.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will act as the primary legal partner to key business areas including puzzles, energy, subscription, product and technology teams.

• Providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice and support to business objectives while ensuring appropriate risk management and governance.
• Drafting and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
• Advising on legal and regulatory matters.
• Supporting policy and process development.
• Working with external counsel where necessary.

• UK-qualified solicitor with post-qualified experience, either in a leading private practice firm or in-house environment.
• Strong commercial legal experience, particularly in drafting and negotiating supply and consumer contracts across goods, services, and digital/technology products.
• Good working knowledge of intellectual property, data protection, and broader consumer/commercial compliance matters.
• Awareness or experience of AI and data governance considerations in a business context.
• A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with strong commercial acumen.
• Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels across a complex organisation.
• Confident communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Organised, resilient and able to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience using AI tools to support legal delivery.
• Exposure to media, technology or TMT sectors advantageous but not essential.
