The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, combating human trafficking, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.

TasksAnd Responsibilities
The Senior Adviser advises the RFoM and his Office on all issues related to media freedom, including relevant international standards and laws. This includes regularly assessing development affecting the media in a designated region; bringing to the attention of the Representative undue restrictions on media freedom and attacks against journalists and news media, in- particular when met with impunity; and preparing public statements, letters or other types of interventions, as agreed with the Representative.
Furthermore, the Senior Adviser monitors compliance of participating States with OSCE and international commitments in the area of media freedom, advising the RFoM and the Office on strategies to promote and support said compliance.
