Purpose of the position

To perform service activities—including preventive maintenance, safety checks, corrective actions, upgrades and refurbishment—on equipment at external or Hiab locations in line with the Manager’s instructions. The role also requires contributing to productive customer relationships and following best practice across administrative and technical tasks.

The Hiab facility is located in Monclova, OH; however, all field‑service work will be conducted in Fort Wayne, IN and surrounding areas.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities Technical and Product Knowledge
  • Stay up to date with technical developments as shown in internal service bulletins and complete technical courses when instructed by the District Service Manager for the relevant equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical specifications for relevant equipment.
Managing the Customer
  • Respond to customers as instructed by the District Service Manager to maximize satisfaction.
  • Follow Hiab Customer Satisfaction Guidelines.
Risk Management
  • Protect yourself and others.
  • Follow applicable safety rules, agreed working practices and environmental requirements.
  • Alert the District Service Manager if equipment safety is jeopardized due to any reason.
  • Operate the assigned service vehicle in compliance with Hiab driving policy and relevant state/federal regulations.
  • Ensure the assigned service vehicle is maintained to manufacturer standards with fleet management support.
  • Respect and protect Hiab and third‑party property (tools, vehicles, facilities, equipment) and business activities.
Service Process
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, report, plan and conduct service or repairs as instructed by the District Service Manager.
  • Submit regular reports in the format specified by the District Service Manager.
  • Keep adequate records and maintain documentation to agreed standards.
Commercial Awareness and Cost Effectiveness
  • Plan and manage time and resources for maximum benefit to Hiab and the customer.
  • Make judgments about the most cost‑effective and efficient approach to providing service.
  • Maintain documentation to ensure accurate invoicing to the customer.
  • Manage and protect the security and traceability of spare parts.
New Business Opportunities
  • Recognize sales opportunities and communicate to the District Service Manager.
Continuous Improvement
  • Provide feedback to the District Service Manager to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in innovative thinking about ways to improve service efficiency.
  • Coach or tutor junior colleagues and trainees as necessary.
  • Conduct yourself consistently in a manner that promotes a positive image of the Hiab brand and follows Quality System rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Accountabilities
  • Obtain and maintain a 1‑year DOT Medical Card.
  • Be mobile, adaptable and able to work in variable physical site conditions without direct supervision.
  • Have a qualification from a higher vocational school (below Graduate/BSc level) in mechanical engineering, hydraulics, electrics and electronics or equivalent experience.
