Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of dual‑fuel combustion turbines and associated balance‑of‑plant equipment. In this role the technician operates the plant during startup, shutdown, steady‑state, and abnormal conditions, performs skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, supports environmental compliance, and communicates effectively in a dynamic, multitasking environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate and control combustion turbines and balance‑of‑plant equipment, including startup, synchronization, and shutdown procedures.
  • Monitor plant systems, respond to alarms, and take corrective actions for abnormal conditions.
  • Communicate with dispatch to confirm unit status and adjust output as required.
  • Inspect, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control systems using schematics and test equipment.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and assist with predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Utilize work management systems for work orders and material requests.
  • Direct and assist contractors and team members; conduct job safety analyses and follow established safety protocols.
  • Initiate clearance permits and ensure proper isolation of plant equipment per site procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies, maintain plant security, and stay proficient in firefighting, first aid, and CPR.
  • Participate in safety, environmental, and technical training; mentor and share knowledge with peers.
  • Uphold ethical behavior, environmental stewardship, and compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must relocate within 30 minutes of the Darby Power, LLC facility.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred.
  • Military technical training or equivalent experience considered.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Flexible to work varied shifts and share on‑call duties for off‑hour dispatches.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a simple cycle or combined cycle power plant.
  • Strong knowledge of combustion turbine operations and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
  • Experience with GE MKV or Emerson Ovation control systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to varied outdoor environments, extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
  • Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high‑voltage protective gear.
  • Working near high‑voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery with proper training and safety protocols.
  • Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
  • Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Participation in a post‑offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
  • Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.

The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, and relevant qualifications. This range represents the base salary and does not include other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, benefits, or equity, which may be offered in addition to the base pay.
