Service Manager

The Service Manager is responsible for running an efficient and profitable service department. He will operate the department at maximum production, controlling costs, building a loyal clientele, maintaining good employee relationships, setting and obtaining sales and profit objectives, and maintaining service records.

• Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them.
• Strive for harmony and teamwork with all other departments.
• Attend managers' meetings as requested.
• Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right‑to‑know, etc.
• Develop plans to keep employees happy and active; hold the moral and efficiency of shop employees responsible.
• Direct and schedule the activities of department employees and provide technical assistance as needed.
• Change employees' attitudes toward customer service and the positives of doing a good and efficient job.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business; serve as a liaison with factory representatives.
• Greet all customers promptly and give fair estimates on costs and time required for repairs and maintenance.
• Handle all customer complaints and break down estimates into labor and parts before the job is started so technicians are aware of time allowances.
• Quality‑check completed jobs, keep up‑to‑date service files, monitor tools, and follow up on parts department orders to ensure availability.
• Control the performance of the department using tools such as efficiency and productivity control, comeback reports, warranty reports, and customer delivery reports.

The Service Manager will work at a desk in the service department garage and will be exposed to noise, vibration, paint, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials. He will move around the service area, crawl under cars, trucks, and farm equipment to inspect work completed and must be confident and trained to operate heavy equipment on and off the road.
